CARAMEL OR BURNT SUGAR CAKE 
1 3/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. hot water
3 c. cake flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. burnt sugar syrup
2/3 c. milk

Prepare syrup. Place 1/2 cup sugar in skillet. Stir constantly as sugar melts. When dark brown, remove from heat and add hot water slowly. Cool. Mix other ingredients. Bake 350 degrees 25-30 minutes.
