3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 lb. flank steak, slices across grain in 1 x 2 x 1/4 inch pieces
1/2 tsp. monosodium glutamate
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tbsp. salted black bean, chopped (purchase at Oriental specialty shop)
2 1/2 c. chicken broth
2 onions, cut into thick long strips
1 sm. can sliced water chestnuts
1 sm. can bamboo shoots
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tbsp. water
1/4 c. soy sauce
1 1/2 lb. asparagus or broccoli, cut 1 1/2 inches long
