CHRISTMAS BREAD | |
1 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 2 tsp. salt 2 c. scalded milk 1/4 c. warm water 2 pkg. yeast 2 eggs 7 3/4 c. flour 2 c. fruit 1 c. raisins 1 1/2 tsp. crushed cardamom seeds or 3/4 tsp. cardamom, ground Put sugar, shortening, salt and scalded milk in large bowl. Stir until shortening melts. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast to warm water. Add eggs and yeast to milk mixture. Add 2/3 of flour; beat until smooth. Add remaining flour and stir in fruit and seeds. Turn out on floured board and knead. Place in greased bowl. Cover and let rise to about doubled in size 1 1/2 hours. Punch down and divide in loaves. Place in greased pans; let rise. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then 350 degrees until done about 30 minutes. |
