HOMEMADE RED SAUCE | |
This recipe makes 1 large pot of sauce. Can be used for any pasta sauce (spaghetti, lasagna). Can be frozen for later use. 2 cups Parmesan cheese 3 cans chicken broth 8 sm or 3 lg. cans tomato paste 2 chopped bell peppers 1 container sliced fresh mushrooms 1 chopped lg. onion 2 tbsp. olive oil 1 tbsp. garlic Pepper and salt 1 tsp. oregano 1 tsp. basil 2 lbs. cooked ground beef, optional Saute onions, bell pepper and mushrooms in olive oil, (add beef if wanted). Add all spices to vegetables. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Add tomato paste, broth and cheese. Using whisk, beat until sauce is smooth. Allow to simmer for 3 or 4 hours for best results. After cooling, can be frozen. If too thick, add water. |
