OLD GERMAN SAUERKRAUT SALAD 
1 1/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. vinegar
1/3 c. oil
1 c. green pepper
1 c. chopped celery
2 tbsp. dry onion flakes or 1/2 c. fresh onion, finely chopped
1 lg. can sauerkraut

Combine sugar, vinegar and oil in sauce pan. Bring to boil until sugar melts. Pour over sauerkraut (juice drained). Add chopped pepper and celery. Grate in a medium carrot for color or add pimento. Add onion. Chill. Serve as a side dish. Also good on hamburgers.
