OATMEAL CAKE 
1 cup Quick Oats
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/3 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
6 tbsp butter
1/4 cup evaporated or whole milk
1 cup chopped nuts

Mix 1 cup Quick Oats and 1 1/2 cup boiling water and set aside.

Cream: 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup white sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 cup shortening.

Add the oatmeal mixture. Add 1 1/3 cups flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp. baking soda.

Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes.

Topping: 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 6 tbsp butter, 1/4 cup evaporated or whole milk, 1 cup chopped nuts. Bring to boil, spread on cake after baking and place under broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully.
