TOFFEE BARS | |
6 to 8 oz graham crackers 2 c. brown sugar 1 c. butter 1/2 c. butter 2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts 2 tsp. vanilla 1 (9 oz.) milk chocolate candy bar (we prefer Hershey's) 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate bits Place crackers as close as possible on a 15 x 10 x 1 inch jelly roll pan. In small heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, and butter. Stirring constantly to keep from scorching, bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Pour brown sugar mixture over crackers; spread evenly. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 8 minutes. Cool. In small saucepan, melt chocolate candy bar and chocolate bits. Spread over cooled cookies. Place bars in refrigerator for 20 minutes. Remove and cut into squares. Cover and store in refrigerator. Yield: 4 1/2 dozen squares. |
