COUNTRY CORN BREAD 
1 1/2 c. yellow corn meal
2 c. sifted flour
2 tbsp. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2 c. milk
1/4 c. bacon drippings or melted shortening

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add eggs and milk. Stir to make a smooth batter. Stir in bacon drippings. Pour into 2 greased 8 x 8 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes or until crusty and golden brown. Cool slightly in pans on wire racks. Serve warm.
