BATTER BREAD 
2 c. warm milk
2 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 stick butter, melted
1 egg
5 c. flour

Put milk in large mixing bowl, stir in dry yeast. Stir until smooth. Add 1/4 cup sugar (try 1/3 cup), 1 1/2 teaspoon salt (try 2 1/2), butter and egg. Mix well. Add 2 cups flour, beat thoroughly. Add 2 1/2 - 3 cups flour. Beat well again. Cover with towel and set in warm place to rise (about 20 to 45 minutes). Stir down. Pour into 2 1/2 quart casserole. Let double. Must not rise closer than 1/2 inch to rim. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven about 1 hour. May need foil or cookie sheet over top the last 15 minutes. May bake in 2 loaf pans about 40 minutes.
