RED APPLE RINGS 
10-12 lg. yellow cukes
1 c. lime
1 1/2 c. white vinegar
1/2 oz. red food coloring
1 1/2 tsp. alum
5 c. sugar
4 sticks cinnamon
6 oz. red hots

Peel cukes and slice 1/4" thick. Remove seeds. Mix 1 cup lime with 1 gallon water and pour over rings. Soak 24 hours. Stir occasionally. Drain and wash clean. Soak in ice water 3 hours. Mix 1/2 cup vinegar, coloring, alum and enough water to cover rings. Simmer 2 hours and drain. Mix 1 cup vinegar, sugar, 1 cup water, cinnamon and red hots. Bring to a boil and pour over rings. On two following days, reheat mixture and pour over rings. Seal in jars on the third day.
