CORN STICK 
1 c. sifted enriched flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. yellow cornmeal
2 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 c. milk
1 lb. (8-10) beef frankfurters

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in cornmeal. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Combine egg and milk; add to cornmeal mixture, stirring until well blended.

Insert wooden skewer into end of each frankfurter. Spread frankfurters evenly with batter. Fry in deep hot fat, 375 degrees, until brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Serve with mustard, catsup and a little Tabasco.
