HEART OF THE SOUTH FRIED OKRA 
1 lb. okra
1 c. cornmeal
2 slices bacon
Salt and fresh ground pepper

Rinse okra and remove caps. Cut pods into one half inch slices and toss with cornmeal. Fry bacon at 365 degrees in electric skillet or on medium high heat i large heavy skillet. Fry single layer of okra about 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown on all sides. Do not overcook or okra will become to soft. Turn carefully. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Serve immediately. Note: Fry smaller okra whole.
