CLASSIC LASAGNA | |
1/4 lb. pork sausage 1/4 lb. ground beef 1/3 c. chopped onion 1 clove garlic, minced 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce 1 c. ricotta cheese 6 packaged lasagna noodles or 1/3 recipe Egg Pasta, see recipe 1 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. dried basil, crushed 1 tsp. dried oregano, crushed 1/2 tsp. celery salt 1 beaten egg 1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese 1 c. Mozzarella cheese In saucepan cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic until browned and onion is tender. Drain fat. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, basil, oregano, celery salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 35-40 minutes. While simmering mix egg, ricotta cheese, and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese and set aside. If using Egg Pasta, cut dough into 10 x 2 1/2 inch strips. Cook pasta in boiling salted water 2-3 minutes. Allow 8-9 minutes for packaged noodles. Arrange 3 noodles in a greased baking dish (10 x 6 x 2). Spread with half of ricotta cheese. Spoon half of sauce over top. Sprinkle with half Mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers. Sprinkle 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese over all. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle rest of Mozzarella cheese on top and heat 5-10 minutes. |
