OLD FASHION STACK CAKE
3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. Sorghum Molasses
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. buttermilk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. allspice
3/4 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs and molasses. Mix well: add soda to buttermilk. Mix dry ingredients together. Add alternately with milk to batter, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

Bake in thin layers (about 1/2 in. thick) in either 9 in. cake pan or old- fashion black griddle for about 12 minutes at 350°F. I use biscuit pan 9 x 13 x 1/2. Cut to size.

Filling:

1 1/2 lb. dried apples (3 c.)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. water

Cook together and when almost done add 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp allspice and 1/2 tsp cloves (I use less cloves). Cook until well done. Let cool before putting between cake layers.
