DANISH PASTRY APPLE BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. lard or shortening 1 egg and enough milk to make 2/3 c. 1 c. crushed cornflakes 8 to 10 med. apples 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Cut shortening into flour and salt. Add milk and egg. Blend with fork. Roll half of the dough to fill a 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 inch cookie sheet. Sprinkle bottom crust with crushed cornflakes. Peel and slice apples and place over crust and flakes. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Roll out other half of dough and place on top. Pinch edges. Bake in preheated oven at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes - while warm - frost with powdered sugar mixture. Pour over warm crust. FROSTING: 1 tsp. hot water 1 c. powdered sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla |
