SHORTCAKE 
(Old-fashioned shortcake for strawberries). 6 individual cakes or 1 (8 inch) round pan. Time - 15 to 18 minutes. Temperature - 450 degrees.

2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. shortening
2/3 c. milk

1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in mixing bowl.

2. Cut in shortening.

3. Push flour mixture aside to make large well and beat the egg with fork.

4. Add milk to egg, then using fork, stir liquid together until just blended.

5. Spread in well greased pan or drop spoonfuls on well greased baking sheet.

6. Split in half, fill and top with sweetened fruit and juice. Serve with plain or whipped cream.
