VANILLA CREAM PIE 
3/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. all-purpose flour or 3 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. milk
3 slightly beaten egg yolks (use whites for meringue)
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (9 inch) baked pastry shell

In saucepan, combine sugar, flour and salt; gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until bubbly. Cook and stir 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir a small amount of hot mixture into yolks, then immediately return this to hot mixture and cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Pour into cooled baked pie shell. Spread meringue on top of pie and bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Cool or you may use whipped cream on top if you prefer over meringue.
