THREE HOUR ROLLS
2 cakes or pkgs. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
3/4 c. scalded milk
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. melted shortening
1 well beaten egg
3 c. flour

Dissolve yeast in water and combine with cooled milk, salt, and sugar. Gradually beat in 1 1/4 cups flour; set bowl in pan of warm water for half an hour or until bubbly. Add remaining ingredients, using enough flour to make fairly stiff dough. Knead on lightly floured board until smooth and elastic. Place in lightly greased bowl; cover and set in warm place; let rise until double in bulk. Knead again for 2 minutes. Shape as desired. Place in greased baking pan, cover, and set in warm place until double in bulk. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

Makes 1 1/2 dozen rolls.
