GERMAN CASSEROLE 
1 lb. hamburger meat
1/2 chopped onion
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
3 lb. potatoes, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
2 cans cut green beans, drained (reserve liquid)
2 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
4 oz. cheese

Combine the first 4 ingredients and form into 1-inch meatballs. Brown in skillet, then drain.

Slowly add milk to roux of butter and flour and cook until pale color yellow. Stir in cheese and some green bean liquid if sauce is too thick.

Combine meatballs, green beans, potatoes and white sauce in ovenproof casserole.

Bake in preheated 350°F oven until hot, about 30 minutes.

Note: A tasty and quick substitute is chunks of smoked sausage for the meatballs.
