GINGERBREAD 
1/2 c. butter & lard mixed
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. hot water

Cream together butter and lard mixed with sugar. Add beaten egg and molasses. Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt and add to smooth. The batter is soft, but it makes a fine cake. Bake in greased shallow pan 35 minutes at 325 to 350 degrees. 10 servings.
