“HARD RED CANDY” IS IN:

HARD RED CANDY 
1 cup light corn syrup (Karo)
4 cups sugar
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tsp, red food coloring
1 tsp. oil of anise

Cook syrup, sugar, cream of tartar and water until mixture cracks when tested in cold water (290°F on candy thermometer).

Add coloring and anise. Do not stir.

Pour into a shallow pan; cool. Cut into squares.

Cooks Note: Use of a candy thermometer is recommended.
