DATE NUT BREAD 
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. pitted dates, cut up
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 c. sifted flour
1 c. boiling water
3/4 c. raisins
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Pour baking soda and water over fruit and set aside. Cream butter and sugar, add vanilla then egg. Beat well and add flour mix. Pour in fruit mixture and nut mix. Bake in buttered pan loaf (9 x 5 inches) for 45 to 55 minutes at 350 degrees.
