EASY RED DEVIL'S FOOD 
Have shortening at room temperature. Spray a 9x9x2-inch pan with non-stick spray.

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Sift flour once. Measure into sifter:

1 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 cups sugar

Measure into bowl:

1/2 cup butter or other shortening

Have ready:

1/2 cup water
2 squares Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate, melted
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 teaspoon vanilla

Stir shortening just enough to soften. Sift in dry ingredients; add water. Mix until flour is moistened; then beat 2 minutes.

Add chocolate, eggs, and vanilla and beat 1 minute longer (or until mixed). Scrape bowl often. Pour batter into pan.

Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Spread with cream cheese frosting or your favorite chocolate frosting.
