HUSH PUPPIES 
1 c. cornmeal
1 c. Bisquick
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. milk
1/2 c. onion (opt.)

Mix the above ingredients. Let stand at least 1/2 hour. Drop by scant tablespoons into moderately hot fat (1/2" deep). Fry both sides, turning only once. Makes 15 to 20 hush puppies.
