MERINGUE CAKE (or Slap Cake) 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. flour
3 tbsp. milk
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
4 egg yolks

MERINGUE:

4 egg whites
2 tbsp. sugar
Slivered or sliced almonds or chopped nuts

BETWEEN LAYERS:

1 carton whipping cream
1/4 c. sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar for batter. Add rest of ingredients to batter as with any cake. Put in 2 layer cake pans.

Make meringue. Pile on layers of cake and sprinkle top with chopped nuts or almonds. Bake in moderate oven about 25 minutes. Cool.

Before serving whip one carton whipping cream and add sugar. Put on bottom layer and slap top layer on. Refrigerate.
