2 sticks butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Melt butter. Mix butter and sugar well. Add all ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.

ICING FOR TOFFEE SQUARES:

1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. cocoa
3 tbsp. soft butter
1 egg white
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix until smooth. Spread on cookies while hot.
