FRESH APPLE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
3 eggs
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. diced, raw apples
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice or cloves

SAUCE FOR CAKE:

1/2 c. buttermilk
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Dust apples, raisins, and nuts with some of the flour; set aside. Blend oil, sugar, and slightly beaten eggs. Stir together remaining flour, salt, and soda; add to egg mixture. Fold in coated apples, nuts, and raisins. Turn into 10 inch greased tube pan and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes.

Sauce: Combine all ingredients; boil rapidly for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour over cake in pan while cake is still hot. Leave in pan for several hours before removing.
