FRIED SUGAR CAKES 
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. each salt, baking powder and cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter
1/3 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c. cinnamon sugar with a dash of powdered cloves
Oil for frying

Combine flour, salt, baking powder and cinnamon. Melt butter. Stir milk and egg into the dry ingredients. Add melted butter. Knead a minute or two with floured hands until dough is soft. Divide into 12 balls.

Heat 1 inch of oil to 400 degrees while you roll each ball into a thin circle (about 5 inches in diameter). Fry on each side until browned. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or drizzle with anise cinnamon syrup. Honey can also be used.
