OLD - FASHIONED MOLASSES TAFFY | |
2/3 c. molasses 1/3 c. light corn syrup 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 1/2 tbsp. cider vinegar 1/2 c. water 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/4 c. butter Combine the molasses, syrup, sugar, vinegar, water and salt and bring slowly to boiling point, stirring until the sugar is dissolved; then cook to the hard ball stage (258 to 270 degrees). Remove from the fire, add the soda and butter and stir just enough to blend. Turn into a large shallow buttered pan and, when cool enough to handle, pull quickly until it changes from brown to light yellow. Twist into braids or cut into individual pieces, using scissors dipped in butter. When cold wrap each piece in waxed paper. |
