OLD - FASHIONED MOLASSES TAFFY | |
2/3 c. molasses 1/3 c. light corn syrup 1 1/3 c. packed brown sugar 1 1/2 tbsp. vinegar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. baking soda 1/4 c. butter 1/2 c. water 1. Grease large shallow pan. 2. Cook molasses, corn syrup, sugar, salt, vinegar and 1/2 cup water in 3 quart heavy saucepan, stirring until sugar dissolves. 3. Cook and stir the mixture until it reaches 265 degrees on a candy thermometer. 4. Remove from heat. 5. Stir in soda and butter well. 6. Pour into greased shallow pan. 7. Let the candy alone until it is cool enough to handle. 8. Butter hands well. 9. Cut off pieces of candy; pull and twist until they change from brown to bronze. 10. Twist into preferred shapes or cut into 1 inch pieces. 11. Wrap individually. Makes about 1 1/4 pounds. |
