NEENIE'S OLD FASHIONED CORN PONE 
2 c. cornmeal, white or yellow
3/4 c. plain flour
1 egg
1 tbsp. baking powder or soda
2 tbsp. oil, shortening, bacon grease or lard
1 c. buttermilk, water (more or less)

Beat all ingredients together. Pour into heavy iron skillet. Cook very slowly on top of coal stove. Be sure to put a lid on it. Check often, flip over when bottom is brown. Cook another 10 or 15 minutes. Serve piping hot with good old butter.
