PHYLLIS' BREAD | |
Loaf of long or round bread (Italian, French, etc.) 1 lb. Swiss cheese 2 tbsp. minced onion 2 tsp. lemon juice 1/2 lb. soft butter 1 tbsp. prepared mustard 1 tbsp. poppy seeds 1/2 tsp. Beau Monde (a spice) Cut a grid almost to the bottom crust of the loaf. Put in each cut 1/4" of Swiss cheese. Place in a pan with sides (or wrap in foil). Blend together and spread over the top of the bread the butter, mustard, poppy seeds, onions, lemon juice and Beau Monde. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. (You may find that there is too much of the butter mixture. I sometimes use just 1/2 of each ingredient.) |
