APPLE PAN DOWDY
4 lg. tart apples
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. lukewarm water
Rich baking powder biscuit dough

Pare, core, and cut apples into eighths. Arrange them in a well buttered baking dish, and sprinkle with the brown sugar into which the spices and salt have been stirred. Dot with butter and pour the water over all. Cover with a rich baking powder biscuit dough rolled not more than 1/2 inch thick. Bake in a slow oven (300 to 325 degrees) for 25 to 30 minutes or until the crust is delicately browned and the apples are tender. Serve warm with plain, sweet, heavy cream or with your favorite hard sauce.
