1 c. diced dates
3/4 c. nut meats of your choice
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
2 eggs
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. (about) candied fruit

Put nuts, dates, fruit, butter and soda in a bowl. Add boiling water. Beat eggs. Add sugar, then flour and salt sifted together. Combine mixture and pour into a buttered loaf pan.

Bake at 350°F about 1 hour or until cake tests done. Turn from pan to cool. Frost top.
