RAISIN SPICE CAKE 
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or shortening
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup hot water
1 cup raisins
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together dry ingredients, cream the sugar and shortening then add beaten eggs. Put 1/2 cup milk in measuring cup and fill up with hot water. Add this alternately with dry ingredients and adding the raisins with each dry ingredient addition. Add vanilla and mix well.

Put into a greased and floured 9x13-inch pan and bake at 350°F for 45 to 50 minutes.
