1 c. brown sugar 2 c. flour 3/4 c. walnuts, chopped 1 1/2 c. quick oatmeal or Kellogg's concentrate cereal 3/4 c. shortening 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. baking soda Mix lightly all at once like pie crust, but save 1/3 of the nuts to sprinkle on top later. Put aside. ook and spread when warm: 2 pkg. (2 sm. or 1 lg.) dates, cut fine 1 c. granulated sugar 1 tsp. vanilla, or lemon juice or 1/4 c. brandy or whiskey added after cooking This cooks until it boils and thickens. Roll with a glass 3/4 of dry mixture in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan. Spread on filling. Cover with remaining dry mixture. Sprinkle with rest of nuts. Bake for 20 minutes in 350 degree oven. Cut into pieces when cool. |
