1 c. flour
1/2 c. salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. water
1 tbsp. cooking oil
Food coloring (optional)
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract (optional)

Add food coloring to water. Then mix all the ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture pulls away from sides of the pan and is not sticky.

Remove the mixture from the heat. Knead the dough. If dough is sticky, let children add flour during play. Store the play dough in a plastic bag.
