I love this recipe! My family loves it too! I've lost count of how many times we have enjoyed this dish. Just use whole cumin (ground it up with the garlic) and this recipe captures the essence of the traditional Carne dish (just like mom use to make). I like to use the "low sodium" beef broth or even just water is good too (worth trying both, see what you prefer). Definitely book mark this recipe! IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!! =)

My boyfriend requested that I make carne guisada...a dish I had never eaten much less cooked. I found this recipe and thought I would give it a shot...It was a big hit!!!!! Now he keeps asking for my delicious carne guisada! Today is the 3rd time I am making this dish in the past month. Thanks for sharing the recipe. According to my boyfriend the taste is very authentic!

My mother in law was unable to contact and I followed this recipe. My husband is hispanic and he said this tasted just like his moms and complemented it over and over and the kids loved it also. He said no longer do we have to ask my mom to make this dish. Its a winner, have to say so myself it is awesome

Authentic carne guisada does not call for jalapeno or chili powder.

This was so good! Added cubed potatoes at the end and a little more cumin. Delish!

I haven't made this in over 20 years. I had a sudden craving and I realized I actually forgot the recipe. This is as close as it gets. The good thing about this dish is that its versatile you can add or subtract and it still tastes "authentic" as long as the main ingredients are included.

I never follow measurements specifically, I kind of just eyeball stuff. With that said, I made this minus the onions, green pepper, tomato, beef broth and jalapeņo. I instead used all water and 3/4 can of mild rotel. I had refrigerated garlic in olive oil, and used dried minced onions instead. I followed the directions as far as everything else and preparations...and this dish came out phenomenal.

I've been eating and making this dish since my Abuela made it. I've changed up the ingredients over the years making use of ingrediants available today. You should dredge the meat in the flour and brown it. I add onions and fresh garlic and lots of cumin powder as the meat is cooking down. Then I use a can (more for large quantities). It is not traditional to use chili powder. I add a small amount of bell pepper slices for taste. Must simmer and stir frequently until tender.

Yum and yum! I left out the flour to make it gluten free for my son. He loved it, and so did I. Tri tip was on sale so I used it instead of cubed round steak. I also used my Instapot to cook it. I used fresh tomatoes and one small can of Rotel tomatoes. I will cook it again and again.
