BOILED RAISIN CAKE (Jesus Cake) 
1 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. water
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves

Grease 8 inch square pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine raisins, shortening and 1 cup water. Heat to boiling point, reduce heat and simmer covered for 5 minutes. Let cool to room temperature. Sift dry ingredients together.

Beat egg in a medium size bowl, beat in remaining 1/2 cup water and cooled raisins liquid. Mix in dry ingredients gradually. Beat until smooth. Stir in cooled raisin mixture. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 35-40 minutes. (This can be doubled and bake in jelly roll pan for bars.) Frost with powdered sugar frosting.
