CHOCOLATE CUSTARD DEVILS FOOD 
1 2/3 c. sugar
3 (1 oz.) sq. chocolate, melted
1 1/2 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. shortening
2 beaten egg yolks
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine 2/3 cup sugar, melted chocolate, 1/2 cup milk and beaten egg. Cook over low heat until thick. Cool.

Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar. Add egg yolks; mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Stir in chocolate mixture. Bake in two 8 inch layer pans, in moderate oven 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
