BRAISED SHORT RIBS 
3 lbs. beef short ribs, cut up
1 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 tbsp. shortening
2 onions, sliced
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. whole allspice
1 c. beef broth

Mix flour, salt, and pepper; coat beef ribs with mixture. Heat shortening in skillet and brown meat well. Combine all ingredients in cooker. Cook on low 8- 10 hours or on high 4-6 hours. Before serving, remove bay leaf and allspice. Yield: 6-8 servings.

Note: Since short ribs tend to be rather fat, skim off excess after cooking or refrigerate overnight and then do so.
