2 1/2 c. flour 2 tbsp. sugar Milk 1 c. lard (be sure to use lard) 1 tsp. salt 1 egg yolk 1 c. Wheaties, crushed Mix dry ingredients and lard like pie crust. Put egg yolk in measuring cup and enough milk for 2/3 cup. Add to crust. Roll out half to fill a large cookie sheet. Sprinkle with crushed Wheaties or cornflakes. FILLING: 8-10 apples 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 egg white 1 c. powdered sugar Slice apples thin on crust and sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over apples. Amount of sugar may vary according to tartness of apples. Roll out other half of crust for top. Pinch edges firmly. Beat egg white and spread on crust. Bake for an hour at 350 degrees. Glaze with 1 cup powdered sugar and water to spreading consistency; spread on while hot. |
