BAKLAVA | |
1 lb. Phyllo pastry sheets 1 lb. butter, melted 4 c. walnuts, finely chopped 5 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 12 oz. honey Place sheets of phyllo in a buttered 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Brush each sheet with butter (7 or 8 sheets). Combine walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Spread 1/3 over the top sheet. Place another 5 buttered sheets on top of nut mixture. Repeat nut mixture (1/3), then 5 more buttered sheets, nut mixture, and then end with remaining buttered sheets at least 8. With knife, cut Baklava into diamond shaped pieces. Cutting about 2/3 way through. Heat remaining butter until hot and begins to brown. Pour into cut areas of Baklava. Sprinkle top with a few drops of cold water and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until golden brown. Dribble honey over cut part of Baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven. |
