NOT QUITE HOMEMADE STUFFING | |
An easy way to dress up the store bought stuff! 1 pkg. Pepperidge Farm seasoned stuffing mix (your choice) 1 pkg. family-size StoveTop stuffing (your choice) 2 slices well-toasted garlic bread, cubed 1 (32 oz.) box chicken broth (Swanson; or use two regular cans) 6 slices bacon 1 small onion, chopped small 3 slices celery, chopped small pecan pieces or water chestnuts (optional) When cooking the bacon, it should have just a little chew left to it. You don't want it too crispy or it'll just disintegrate. I leave the drippings in the pan, add the onion and celery, put on the lid and turn off the heat. This cooks them just enough so they'll still have some crunch. Mix both packages of stuffing according to their directions but omit any butter and use only enough broth to make them just moist. Mix the two brands together (gently) and add the remaining ingredients -- including the bacon drippings (thus no butter). If necessary, add more broth or water. Pour this into a greased casserole dish and heat for 30 minutes at 350°F. If you feel its getting to dry, you can add more broth and/or cover with foil. Submitted by: Jennifer |
