ETHEL BOEHMER'S APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
3 apples, peeled & cored
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter

SAUCE:

1 c. water
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sauce ingredients and heat until sugar dissolves.

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add shortening and cut in well. Beat egg lightly and combine with milk. Add to dry ingredients. Roll 1/4 inch thick and cut in squares. Place 1/2 apple on each square. Fill core with brown sugar and butter mixture. Pinch dough over apple. Place in 8 x 9 inch pan. Pour sauce over dumplings and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
