BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE | |
1 c. shortening 3 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. buttermilk 3 c. plain flour, sifted 1/2 tsp. baking soda in 1/4 c. warm water 2 tsp. vanilla 5 separated eggs Cream shortening, sugar and salt. Stir in egg yolks 1 at a time. Alternate with buttermilk, flour and soda in water. Beat until smooth. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 350°F. Cool 10 minutes. Run knife to loosen. Turn out. Wonderful for strawberry shortcake. |
