OATMEAL DATE BARS 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. melted butter
1 c. nuts
1 1/2 c. rolled oats

FILLING:

40 dates, chopped or 1 (8 oz.) box chopped dates
1 c. water
3/4 c. sugar

Cook until smooth and add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.

Sift flour, soda and salt. Mix in sugar, oatmeal, butter and nuts. Put 1/2 mixture in greased 9x13 pan. Spread filling and cover with rest of mixture. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
