OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 lb. butter (2 sticks)
1 1/3 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
3 c. course oatmeal
1 c. raisins or chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together first 7 ingredients. Cream together butter and sugar. Add rest of ingredients to butter mixture. Mix in the dry ingredients alternately with 1/2 cup buttermilk. Dough will be stiff. May have to finish by hand. Chill 2 hours in refrigerator. Drop by spoon on greased cookie sheet. Leave room for cookies to spread while cooking. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
