APPLE DUMPLINGS | |
SYRUP: 16 oz. bottle 7-Up 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 c. butter 1 1/2 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. nutmeg Combine all ingredients except butter and cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Add butter, stir and set aside. DOUGH: 1 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder 2 c. flour 3/4 c. shortening 1/2 c. milk FILLING: 6 apples, peeled and cored 6 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 3 tbsp. butter Mix flour, salt, and baking powder; cut in shortening. Add milk all at once and stir until moistened. Roll out and cut into 6 to 7 inch squares. Place 1 apple on each square. Mix together sugar, cinnamon and butter. Place 1 tablespoon of this mixture center of each apple. Fold corners over apple and pinch edges together. Arrange in baking dish and pour syrup mixture over top. Bake at 425 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with milk. Makes 6 dumplings. |
