DATE LOAF CANDY 
3 c. sugar
1 c. milk
8 oz. chopped dates
1 tbsp. butter
4 c. pecans or walnuts, chopped

Combine sugar, milk and dates in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until mixture reaches soft ball stage. Remove from heat, stir in nuts. Divide mixture in half. Place each half on a damp tea towel. Shape into 10 x 2 inch log. Roll logs up in towels and let cool at least 30 minutes. Unwrap and cut into slices.
